One of the first major storylines during the new Triple H era of WWE programming, The Miz and Dexter Lumis story has been one of the dominant stories on WWE's Monday Night Raw. Featuring Lumis stalking and then kidnapping The Miz, a crashed birthday party, Johnny Gargano taunting The Miz, and more, recently, things might have reached a breaking point. During a pre-taped 60 Minutes parody segment, Johnny Gargano revealed that Dexter Lumis and The Miz were working together to stage these events. It was a weird swerve and one that did no favors to an already bad storyline on Raw, though now that Gargano has been dragged into it, he is also being negatively effected by it as well.
Johnny Gargano Reveals The Shocking Reason For Dexter Lumis' Attacks On The Miz
On the most recent episode of Monday Night Raw, Johnny Gargano revealed to the WWE Universe that everything they thought they knew about Dexter Lumis and The Miz was a lie. In canon, following his real-life WWE release earlier this year, Lumis had fallen on hard times, and with no money saved, The Miz came calling, offering to pay him in order to stage attacks and kidnappings to make The Miz look like a victim. While it was a shocking reveal, it does not mean that it was a good one. The segment itself was questionable at best, but the content of Gargano's accusations have now somewhat ruined an already not-so-stellar storyline.
The Miz And Dexter Lumis Twist Doesn't Make Any Sense
One of the biggest issues that Gargano's bombshell has raised is, that according to his accusations, Dexter Lumis still doesn't have a job with WWE. That does not seem to be the case ,however, as Lumis was scheduled for a match during this storyline, though it would be called off. Lumis was also said to have been crossed by The Miz during this time, leading to no payments being made, which begs the question of how a former superstar who apparently has no money now is able to travel the country every week. On top of this, fans also found out that The Miz purposefully lost the United States Championship, making that championship feel less important in the process.
Looking further, it completely negates Maryse's involvement in the storyline as she was either lied to by her husband, something that would be out of character for The Miz, even if he is a heel, or that she was also in on it, which seems unlikely. This new wrinkle of The Miz and Dexter story Lumis feels so out of left field that it almost feels like a guarantee that this was not the original plan for the storyline. It unfortunately does not appear to be the end of the storyline either, so Monday Night Raw fans can expect to see more unreasonable, unearned twists and turns to come from this storyline now featuring The Miz, Maryse, Dexter Lumis, and Johnny Gargano as WWE tries to make sense of a bad, confusing storyline.
The Confusing Storyline Is Now Hurting Johnny Gargano
Making a genuinely surprising return to WWE during the company's return to Canada this past Summer, Johnny Gargano was a name that brought fans a lot of joy in seeing him appear on WWE's red brand. With Triple H in charge, it only made fans happier as Johnny Wrestling was a staple of NXT Black & Gold, considered to be one of the best underdog babyfaces in wrestling. However, since returning, Gargano has felt like an afterthought most weeks during Monday Night Raw. Aside from a few big matches and a cringe-inducing cowboy dance break during a match with Baron Corbin, Gargano's stock has continued to fall on Monday Nights.
Now being slotted into the ongoing Miz and Dexter Lumis saga, Gargano is an active part of the worst storyline of the Triple H era thus far. Being the one to expose The Miz and Lumis' working relationship, it seems like this is where Johnny is going to be sitting for the next few months, which does not bode well for any longtime Gargano fans. The sooner this ends, the better, for all involved. The Miz is more than capable in the midcard, though Gargano deserves a chance to be the underdog babyface main event star fans have wanted him to be.
