WWE reportedly canceled plans they had in place involving Hall of Famer Edge for this Saturday's SummerSlam 2022 pay-per-view.

Part-timers and legends like Edge are usually featured at SummerSlam. But barring any last-minute changes or surprises, the likes of The Rated R Superstar, John Cena and Goldberg will not be on the SummerSlam 2022 card. Another veteran mainstay, Randy Orton, is also off the card as he continues to recover from a back injury.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, The Ultimate Opportunist and his wife, Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix, were scheduled to appear at this week's SummerSlam go-home Raw show at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. However, Johnson reports that the "plans changed shortly after the Vince McMahon exit." On top of that, Johnson said Edge and Phoenix were also scheduled to appear at SummerSlam, but he added "there's no word whether that is still happening or they are holding their return off for a later date."

Last week, McMahon announced his retirement on Twitter. WWE later announced that Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan were named the co-CEOs.

Edge-Judgment-Day-WWE

Edge has been off of WWE programming for almost two months now. On the June 6 episode of Raw, The Judgment Day (Edge, Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest) introduced Finn Balor as their stable leader. In a stunner, Balor, Priest and Ripley worked together in quickly attacking Edge, and WWE later announced a storyline injury for the wrestling icon.

Many guessed that Edge would return for a SummerSlam feud with Judgment Day. But Balor and Priest are scheduled to take on Rey and Dominik Mysterio in a tag team match.

SummerSlam Would Be A Perfect Time For Edge To Return

It makes perfect sense for WWE to bring back Edge at the highly-anticipated SummerSlam pay-per-view in Nashville, Tennessee. Last year, Becky Lynch and Brock Lesnar added more thrill to the show when they made unexpected returns. This would also be a great opportunity for WWE to begin the buildup for an Edge-Judgment Day feud ahead of the Clash at the Castle pay-per-view on Sept. 3.
