Eddie Guerrero Unmasked Rey Mysterio During Their Heated Feud
The heated rivalry between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio was one of the most acclaimed feuds during the Ruthless Aggression. The feud began after Eddie betrayed his partner and fellow tag team champion Rey and got highly personal, bringing Mysterio's son Dominik into the mix. A week after Guerrero's betrayal, Rey Mysterio was the victim of an ambush by several heels, but Guerrero saved him and helped to clear the ring. For a split second, it appeared as though Guerrero had started to see thing properly, and their conflicts had been set aside. That was until Guerrero laid out Mysterio himself, beating him down in a brutal assault which left him bloodied and battered with Mysterio's mask being half torn, making some part of his face visible and Eddie coming out with the mask the following week to cut a highly intense promo.
Moreover, it is interesting to note that Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero even battled each other in a Title Vs Mask match at Halloween Havoc 1997 for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship, with Mysterio picking up the win to secure his mask and identity.
Rey Mysterio Was Unmasked During A Match Against Chris Jericho
Rey Mysterio was the WWE Intercontinental Champion in 2009 and faced Chris Jericho at WWE Extreme Rules. Jericho had promised that he would win the WWE Intercontinental Title and remove Rey Mysterio's mask during the buildup to the event. The match was an instant classic between the two legends with the final moments seeing Jericho positioned on the middle rope by Mysterio, who was preparing to hit the 619. However, in the midst of the maneuver, Jericho attacked Mysterio and removed his mask.
Jericho utilized the opportunity to roll Mysterio up for the three-count and win the match and the WWE Intercontinental Title while Mysterio tried to hide his face from the crowd and the cameras.
The Unmasking Of Rey Mysterio Happened In the Early 2010s At The Hands Of The Rhodes Family
Cody Rhodes' nose was inadvertently broken by Rey Mysterio in 2011, ending his 'Dashing' persona and leading to him wearing a protective nose guard. As retaliation, Cody planned a terrible ambush on Rey Mysterio. Mysterio was brutally attacked from behind by Cody Rhodes after being persuaded to enter the ring by Dusty Rhodes. After throwing Mysterio against the entrance-tron face-first, Rhodes guided him up the ramp and removed his mask, and displayed it as an evil prize.
Randy Orton Was Another Serpent To Remove Rey Mysterio's Mask
Rey Mysterio was involved in a feud with vicious superstar, Randy Orton in 2018. In one of the SmackDown main events, Orton was dominating Mysterio countering a baseball slide with an RKO at ringside. After winning the match with a second RKO, Orton continued the narrative. Orton continued to launch a vicious attack on Mysterio even after the bell rang, resulting in Mysterio being unmasked on live television. The following week, Orton brought Mysterio's mask to SmackDown, treating it like a prize.
The Miz Unmasked Rey Mysterio In 2022
The Miz has never been shy abou gaining heat from the audience and resorted to removing Rey Mysterio's mask last year on an episode of RAW. Rey Mysterio teamed up with his son, Dominik Mysterio, to battle the Dirty Dawgs (Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode). Dominik Mysterio, who put on an outstanding performance, was the star of the evening, connecting Robert Roode with a 619 and winning by pinfall to end the match. However, Dolph Ziggler took out Dominik after the contest. The Miz struck from behind while Rey was pursuing Ziggler, and then delivered the skull-crushing finale. The events that followed were terrible and right in front of everyone, The Miz ripped off Rey Mysterio's mask.
