For a while, NXT was perhaps one of the best places to watch great tag team wrestling in the entire wrestling world. The roster was full of teams, with matches stealing the show each and every week, and playing a part in some of the best stories in the whole of NXT, rather than being an afterthought like elsewhere in WWE.

When they lost the belts, the team parted ways, with Neville going on to win more gold (which we’ll get to soon), and Grey would leave the company shortly after.

The-Ascension

To date, The Ascension still have the longest ever reign with the NXT Tag Belts, with a recognized reign of 343 days. Despite their awful booking on the main roster, they still remain one of the most dominant and impressive tag teams in NXT history.

Following their release, they continued wrestling as a team on the independent scene. Viktor’s last match came at the end of 2021, but Konnor has been wrestling as a singles competitor, most recently appearing on an episode of Impact Wrestling.

The Lucha Dragons

DIY NXT Tag Team Champions

DIY are perhaps the most popular team in NXT history, with the pairing of Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano having one of the best long-term stories in recent memory, rising from being non-contracted stars to each becoming the biggest names on the entire brand, with their story even boosting the tag titles to the main event spot on a Takeover before winning a sea of singles titles.

Johnny Gargano has recently left NXT, with him not willing to renew his contract, instead focusing on starting his family with wife Candice LeRae, with her being pregnant. Ciampa has remained on NXT, even since the brand went through a complete overhaul and revamp, becoming “NXT 2.0”, with Ciampa feeling very out of place, but still managing to remain significant on the show.
