Throughout WWE history, there have been some iconic masks, and that is something that has been a longstanding aspect of the company. Fans expect to see masked wrestlers now and then, sometimes with WWE bringing in a luchador, while there will be other moments when WWE decides to add a mask to a wrestler to alter their gimmick.

While there are many classic masks over the years, even in the modern era of wrestling, masks are still a big part of the product. Throughout the modern era of WWE, there have been some amazing masks with incredible detail, and even recently the company has still been showcasing some fantastic ones.

9 The Fiend

The Fiend may no longer be around in WWE, but he certainly left his mark on the industry with one of the scariest masks of all time. WWE created a fantastic gimmick with this character and the mask was a huge part of that.

He looked intimidating at all times and the character was often quite unnerving to witness. It is rare for WWE to create something that leans so heavily towards the fear factor in this day and age, but that helped the mask be even more refreshing.

El Torito is often overlooked by many wrestling fans, mainly because the Los Matadores gimmick wasn't a very good one, with their masks being very forgettable. However, El Torito himself had a fantastic mask that was detailed and memorable.

It was something unique at the time and it helped get his character over, especially with younger audiences, which is what this group was supposed to be working towards. The horns were always a nice touch when it came to this mask as well, helping to make it look even greater.

Lince Dorado is a natural high-flying wrestler and a true luchador who respects and values what a mask means in wrestling. Because of that, it is no surprise that his mask always looks fantastic, with bright colors often being relied upon.

Dorado's mask is different from most as it has cat-like features, from the small ears to the fur that runs down the side of it. This is something that makes the mask unique and that is why it's one of the best of WWE's modern era.

Lince Dorado's tag team partner also wrestles regularly in a mask, and his is a little more traditional. However, it is still a fantastic one that always looked incredible, with Gran Metalik being able to change it up when he wants to match his ring gear.

Metalik always looks fantastic when he hits the ring, and the mouth section of his mask is one that always catches the eye. He also uses bright colors to make his look pop, and that is something that has really worked well for him.

5 Wild Boar

Wild Boar might not be somebody that everyone is familiar with because he is part of the NXT UK roster. However, the mask that he wears is a fantastic one. It links into his name and provides a very creepy look when he makes his way to the ring.

While he does take the mask off when the bell rings and he starts to wrestle, the mask itself is still a memorable one that makes an impact on his way in. This instantly catches the eye and that is the key to a great mask.

4 Sin Cara

From the moment Sin Cara debuted, it was clear that he was always going to have a sleek appearance that simply looked cool from an aesthetic standpoint. He started out with the classic blue and gold mask that fans certainly remember, but he switched things up and kept himself fresh.

The mask he wore later on in his career was a great one, hiding more details of his face which added even more mystery to him as a wrestler. While his in-ring career may not have hit the heights that it should have done, his masks will certainly be memorable for years to come.

3 Nikki A.S.H.

Nikki A.S.H. is a new wrestler to don a mask, but it was a decision that proved to be popular with the WWE Universe. The audience instantly gravitated towards this superhero character and that has helped take her to new heights, which proves how important a good mask can be.

While the mask isn't overly detailed in comparison to others that have been used in recent years, it suits the character in the fact she is almost a superhero. That is why the mask has been a hit and will go down in the history books.

2 Kalisto

Kalisto was always an exciting wrestler to watch inside of the ring, but he also brought one of the greatest masks in WWE history as well. He used a few during his time, with the first having a slight tail at the back of it, which helped him stand out.

But it was his later mask that really looked fantastic, with this almost having a dragon feel to it, especially when he used face paint underneath. It created a fantastic look for him that people instantly gravitated towards every time.

While Rey Mysterio has been around for a long time in the industry, his mask is still the best in WWE to this day. He is the most well-known masked wrestler in history and the fact that he still constantly changes and tweaks his masks means that people never get bored.

Mysterio doesn't just use the same mask all the time like certain wrestlers, as he opts to bring in different colors and styles. Because of that, Mysterio always feels fresh and that is one of the many reasons he has stayed relevant.
