WWE is reportedly very interested in signing MJF following the AEW star repeatedly bringing up his contract status with the younger company.

MJF has made waves as one of the top heels in the industry during what has been a relatively short stint in the spotlight and has actually stated an intent to start a “bidding war” between AEW and WWE when his current deal expires in 2024. It’s worth noting he’s said he wouldn’t leave AEW in shoot interviews, though.

MJF Turns On Cody Rhodes

According to Andrew Zarian, the wrestler’s comments have got WWE and its broadcast partners paying attention and there’s actually lots of interest in getting him on the roster.

“So it’s very interesting – he cut that promo a couple of weeks ago where he was saying essentially his contract runs out in 2024 and everybody wants him. And I went out for a couple of drinks with a couple of people, and I can tell you that it got people buzzing,” Zarian said on the Wrestling Observer’s Were Live Pal show recently (H/T WrestleTalk.com). “It almost worked the corporate side of stuff on USA and even FOX, where it perked their ears, they’re like, ‘Hey, this guy is really good, is his contract ending in 2024? Is that true?’.

“And there have been conversations. And I know WWE’s very interested in him. They’re always looking for that next star, that next heel, and the second you see this guy, especially on TV, he’s so impressive. The way that they’ve portrayed him on AEW, they do a fantastic job of protecting him in every possible way.

“I can tell you based on my conversations with people within WWE, people within both networks, the last two weeks – I’ve never heard any of them mention MJF’s name to me (until now), in any capacity of a conversation, especially a lot of the network guys are not as familar with the AEW product – they have all asked me my thoughts.

“The network guys – not the WWE guys, they brought up MJF to me – but the network guys, both sides have asked me what I think of him, and if his contract expiring in 2024 is true. So very interesting that there’s a lot of focus on that guy right now. Because I think WWE and the networks are both realising that they need those kind of guys on that roster to balance everything out.”

All The Way Up

MJF CM Punk Promo on AEW Dynamite

MJF is part of an attractive storyline brewing between himself and CM Punk that could see one of them challenge for the AEW World Championship.

It would make more sense for AEW to have Punk put him over given the gulf in status. Punk is a well-established star in the business while MJF is on the come up.

He would be an excellent acquisition for WWE and company heads would likely hold talks with him when the contract situation changes in 2024.
