His claims to fame include being an early rival for The Ringmaster Steve Austin, a part of the Nation of Domination, and the leader of Los Boricuas for the polarizing gang war angle. In an unfortunate turn, the International Wrestling Association—a promotion based in Vega’s native Puerto Rico where he has been heavily featured throughout his career—reported on Twitter over the weekend that he had been hospitalized.

In a translation provided by Andrew Ravens (WrestlingNews.co) the IWA communicated over Twitter that “Yesterday, Saturday, Savio Vega had to be transferred to a hospital in an emergency. He is still under treatment.” They additionally shared, “In an update for our fans, Savio Vega is still in the hospital and undergoing a series of treatments.”

Vega achieved great success in the IWA after his run in WWE, in addition to winning the World Heavyweight Championships of the World Wrestling Council and World Wrestling Association in Puerto Rico at other points.

While Savio Vega’s most famous work came under the bright spotlight of WWE, he has a diverse tenure in the business. In addition to being a top star in Puerto Rico, Vega worked as a road agent for Impact Wrestling and has wrestled matches relatively recently for major indies like Game Changer Wrestling and Major League Wrestling.
