Mick Foley is an all-time legend in the wrestling business, whether it be as Cactus Jack, Dude Love, Mankind, or even just his real name, with him being a favorite for many. He fought through stereotypes of what a generic “star” should look like, rising to the top of WWE during the Attitude Era to become WWE Champion.

Fans will likely know a lot about Foley’s time in WWE, but there are also things that fans should know about his life outside wrestling too, with him having plenty of interesting facts, personal details, and other bits which are fun to know about.

Mick Foley may have been born in Indiana, but he and his family moved to Long Island very soon after his birth, which is also where he attended school, going to the Ward Melville High School.

Whilst in school, Foley dipped his toes into different sports, one of those being lacrosse. When looking at professional wrestlers, it is usual for them to have played some sports in high school.

During his time in school, Foley also tried his hand in amateur wrestling, which is another common thing for many future professional wrestlers. Someone who was both a classmate and a teammate on the wrestling team, was actor Kevin James.

James is quite a notable actor, getting notoriety from work such as The King of Queens TV show, and films such as Grown Ups and Paul Blart: Mall Cop. James would be the one to get the number one spot on their team though, beating Foley to that position.

Although many take their allegiance in sports to the biggest available team, whether that be due to success or simply a team being the most notable in the area, Foley has stuck by and remained true to his roots.

Foley is a fan of the Stoney Brook Seawolves team, who compete in the college basketball NCAA Division. This is due to Foley’s father being a former tutor at the University in the past, with Foley staying loyal to that and regularly attending several of their home games.

7 New York Times Bestseller

Both during and after his wrestling career, Foley has also pursued writing, to the point where he has become a mult-time New York Times Bestseller through his several different autobiographies.

In addition, Foley has also written several children’s books too, with some based around Christmas and another one on Halloween. Foley has also tried his hand at writing novels too, one of which was a nominee for the WH Smith People’s Choice Award.

6 Marriage And Children

Foley has been married for thirty years, tying the knot with his wife, Colete, back in 1992. In that time they have had four children; Dewey, Michael, Hughie, and Noelle.

Noelle has reached some prominence of her own, with a large social media following of over 1 million people, in addition to a YouTube channel and a career as a social media model.

5 Has A Minor Acting Career

He would later appear in films such as 12 Hour Shift , Dixieland (where he would play himself), and Anamorph. Due to his fame, he has also appeared on several talk shows, reality TV shows, and game shows.

Foley’s acting career feels like a thrown-together random assortment of TV and film genres, with his voice acting role in Avatar: The Last Airbender feeling out of left field compared to the comedies and thrillers he had roles in.

Foley voiced “The Boulder” in two episodes of the tv show, and would even make an appearance in the The Burning Earth video game too, marking his one non-wrestling video game feature.

3 Stand-Up Comedy Career

Other professional wrestlers have pursued success in the world of stand-up comedy - one which comes to mind is Dolph Ziggler. Foley is also someone who has delved down this path, with it certainly being less physically demanding than his main career.

Foley’s form of stand-up comedy sees him mostly tell stories, with the comedy coming from his brilliant comedic timing and delivery rather than well thought out jokes (though he does tell his fair share of jokes too). Foley has taken this around the world, performing in Ireland, Australia, and all around the US too.

2 His Love Of Christmas

There is one thing in this world that Foley loves nearly as much as his family, and that is the Christmas holiday. From an array of obscene yet charming Christmas clothing, to dressing up as Santa Claus on countless occasions, to having a legitimate “Christmas room” in his house, it is clear as day for everyone to see how much he loves it.

In an interview with The Metro, he revealed that he even had offers to play the role of Santa Claus in TV and film, but wanted to instead keep the magic of Christmas alive by turning them down, as seeing someone as notable as him playing Santa could ruin the magic.

1 His Charitable Work

When it comes to not only the world of professional wrestling, but the wider world as well, Mick Foley is among the best of the human race, with his charitable endeavors and activism being clear proof of that.

He has done a lot of work for children’s charities, such as Make-A-Wish, ChildFund International, and more. Elsewhere, the Washington Times described him as a “Legend among hurt troops” due to his tireless visits to hurt and wounded soldiers. He has also volunteered for the RAINN group, in which he has logged hundreds of hours on their hotline, in addition to raising thousands of dollars too.
