WWE has made up plenty of call-ups from NXT over the years and it has led to some fantastic moments. The likes of Kevin Owens, Charlotte Flair, and Big E were all ready for the main roster and were able to make an immediate impact upon their move from the black and gold brand to Raw or SmackDown.

However, that isn't the case for every call-up. There have been plenty that simply did not work out, with the likes of Aleister Black and The Revival struggling. However, that wasn't down to them not being ready, that was simply because of poor booking. Yet there have been some wrestlers that were called from NXT that simply weren't ready to be called up, with this moment coming too soon in their careers.

10 Shane Thorne

Slapjack vs Bobby Lashley Hell in A cell

Shane Thorne was taken to the main roster as part of Retribution, becoming the character of Slapjack. His character was obviously a dreadful one, which didn't help him, but Thorne simply wasn't ready to be moved to the main roster at that time.

He hadn't been pushed in NXT prior to that point, which stopped him from becoming somebody that people wanted to see. He was a good wrestler, but someone without character or purpose, which is why he wasn't ready.

9 No Way Jose

No Way Jose on Raw

No Way Jose had proven to be popular in NXT, but that didn't mean he was prepared to be a main roster wrestler. The reason for that was the complete lack of personality or character that he had been given to that point.

Outside of dancing around and having fun, there was nothing going on with No Way Jose. This meant that he was impossible to book into a serious situation which was always going to stunt his ability to progress.

8 Mojo Rawley

Mojo Rawley

Mojo Rawley was another case of a wrestler who was pushed because of the fact that he had a major personality. However, he also wasn't quite ready for the main roster push when it happened.

There were elements of his in-ring work that had to be sharpened before he was pushed to being on the main roster. He also didn't have too much personality about himself outside of just having a lot of energy, which isn't ideal for the big leagues of WWE.

7 Apollo Crews

Apollo Crews was on an opposite level for a lot of NXT call-ups that weren't ready. In terms of in-ring ability, he had everything needed to be a success, but his personality wasn't ready and his short stint in NXT hadn't prepared him for WWE's style.

That is why it took him so long to make an impact on the main roster. It wasn't until the pandemic era of WWE that Apollo truly began to make a mark, which is because he had a complete lack of character until that point.

6 Chelsea Green

Chelsea Green is another wrestler who was a great in-ring talent and she could certainly have put together some fantastic matches on the main roster. However, her call-up brought her NXT career to an end abruptly.

She had only just started appearing regularly on NXT and there was a lack of hype about her from a casual audience because of that. Green could easily have thrived as an NXT Women's Champion which might have changed her career projection.

5 Nia Jax

nia jax

WWE pushed Nia Jax as a threat immediately in NXT, and because of that, she ended up being moved to the main roster quite early on in her career. While she has always been pushed well in WWE, it would have made more sense to give her more time to develop in NXT.

Had she taken that time, potentially had a run as NXT Women's Champion, then she could have been a totally different prospect. Jax might have been able to put together some unforgettable matches if she had more time in NXT to just hone her craft.

4 Emma

Emma dancing gimmick

Emma was the right person to call up when she was the first time, as inside the ring she was one of the best workers in the company. However, at the time, her awkward dancing gimmick wasn't the right fit for her.

It was awkward and didn't really work, which is why it was only a brief run before she was placed back in NXT. However, Emma was able to return to NXT and really develop her character with the heel run, proving she needed more time before making the move.

3 Austin Aries

Neville v Aries

Austin Aries was rushed onto the main roster due to a legitimate injury that he suffered. He became part of the 205 Live commentary and he then joined the roster, with his poor booking ultimately leading to his time with WWE ending.

However, he should really have been given the time to have a proper stint in NXT as Aries has all the abilities to become a major star on that show. Had that happened, he might have been able to join the main roster in a different capacity, which could have changed his career entirely.

2 Austin Theory

Austin Theory posing in NXT

Austin Theory is someone who has a lot of potential to be a big star in the wrestling world. However, he was brought to the main roster too quickly due to the pandemic and WWE needing to fill a spot on the card.

The fact that he didn't stick around for too long showcases that WWE realized he needed more time in NXT. He got to return to the black and gold brand and he has since really worked on his promos and personality, which means when he returns one day, Theory will be a bigger star.

1 Dana Brooke

Dana Brooke

Dana Brooke has made major improvements on the main roster, of that there is no doubt. However, when she was originally put on Raw, she wasn't ready at all as she was still fairly green inside the ring.

Her matches were sloppy and that stopped fans from taking her seriously. It was a shame to see as her early call-up was unnecessary at the time, as a little longer in NXT would have been beneficial.
