Omos, real name Tolulope "Jordan" Omogbehin, is a Nigerian WWE wrestler and also a former college basketball player. Also known as the Nigerian Giant at 7 feet 3 inches tall and weighing 400+ pounds, he debuted as Akira Tozawa’s “Giant Ninja” in a comedic role in 2019. Soon he was given the role of the doorman at Shane McMahon’s RAW Underground and further aligned himself with AJ Styles as his giant enforcer.

Omos made his in-ring debut at WrestleMania 37 where he and Styles won the RAW Tag Team titles from The New Day. After separating from Styles by the end of 2021, he was joined by MVP, who became his manager. He has been a singles competitor since, facing top superstars like Braun Strowman, Bobby Lashley, and Brock Lesnar. The 28-year-old rookie’s quick rise in the company can be directly contributed to his gargantuan size. However, as it is with all giants, that size comes with a price, generally in the form of tumors near the pituitary gland. It causes an excess release of growth hormones, resulting in gigantism. But with Omos, it’s much more than just a tumor.

What Makes Omos’ Condition So Rare?

Omos was on the Out of Character Podcast with Ryan Satin last year, where he elaborated on his medical conditions. It all started while young Omogbehin was playing college basketball at the University of South Florida. The President of the University and his coach received an email from a doctor, and he was contacted by them. The email said that the giant had a pituitary tumor and had to get it checked at the earliest. He read the email in disbelief and told his coach that he didn’t think he had anything but would get it checked to have peace of mind.

He got the MRI done and when its report came, he was sent to the coach’s office. The University President, the coach, and the doctors were all there, and they confirmed the suspicion. He had a brain tumor. They did not know whether it was benign or cancerous but had to sideline the giant.

Other WWE giants like Andre The Giant and The Great Khali have all had similar issues but Omos’ condition is unique. He revealed on the podcast that other than this tumor, he was also dealing with other disorders. While running tests on him, the doctors found out that he was also dealing with Acromegaly (Gigantism) and a form of Cushing’s disease (a rare condition where the adrenal glands overproduce cortisol). These disorders generally happen to abnormally large human beings but never together. He called himself a medical anomaly, and they even published a medical journal about him. He said, “I had the other three combined and my case was very very unique. It was the first time in medical history they had seen someone with all three together and I became this anomaly in the medical world. I had a journal published about me, about my case."

Omos Went Through Two Brain Surgeries In College

The big man had to go for emergency brain surgery, a month after his MRI scan, to remove this tumor and the doctors had to enter his head through the nose. He described it as a “very, very traumatic” experience for him. The surgery was critical because the tumor was pressed against his optic nerves, and he had the risk of going blind or having a heart attack or cardiac arrest. Omos also discovered that the pituitary tumor was the cause of the blackouts he had as a child.

A year later, he then had a follow-up brain surgery to clear up any lingering issues from the first one. The pituitary gland relays signal to the testes to produce testosterone in men. As a result of his surgeries on the gland, his body no longer produces testosterone naturally. He has to consume it through external supplements. He is at peace with his condition and in time has learned to live with it. Omos reflects, “Because of that tumor a lot of diseases affected me, my thyroid.. It taught me a lesson that I can’t control everything. That it was completely out of my hands. There is nothing I could do. And it kind of got me down for a while. But I got used to living with it.”

While Omos came out of his conditions really strong and is looking to dominate the WWE landscape with his enormous size and fearing strength, the future certainly looks bright for the Nigerian Giant.
