WWE has reportedly scrapped plans for a Roman Reigns championship match at the July 2 Money in the Bank 2022 pay-per-view.

Reigns isn't on the card for this Sunday's HIAC pay-per-view. He and several other top stars were recently removed from advertising for Money in the Bank, leading to speculation that those talents will be absent from the show. Last week, WWE announced that they were relocating the event from the massive Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada to the smaller MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), Dave Meltzer reported that Shinsuke Nakamura and Riddle vs. The Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships was planned for Money in the Bank "as of midweek." Meltzer added that Riddle vs. Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship was initially planned, but that obviously won't be taking place if Riddle and Nakamura compete against The Usos.

Meltzer noted that WWE hasn't made a "final decision" on if Reigns will next defend his championship at Money in the Bank, or if they'll wait until the July 30 SummerSlam pay-per-view (in Nashville, Tennessee). Meltzer also reported "Randy Orton was the scheduled opponent" for that show.

With less tickets to sell for Money in the Bank, it's possible that WWE has decided that they don't need to stack the card for that event. As previously noted, Reigns will be working less WWE events (including pay-per-views) on his new contract.

Roman Reigns vs. Orton And Then Drew McIntyre?

The show is still three months away, but WWE has reportedly talked about having Reigns face Drew McIntyre at the Sept. 3 Clash at the Castle pay-per-view, which will run at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. This will be the first WWE pay-per-view to run in the United Kingdom since SummerSlam 1992.

WWE fans have waited a long time for a long-term Reigns vs. McIntyre program. The two put on a match of the year candidate back at Survivor Series 2020, which Reigns won by technical submission.
