WWE in 2019 had somewhat of a decline, with weekly TV offering up some of the lowest viewership the company had seen in some time – and in some cases, the worst it had ever been. The PPVs of 2019 were a mixed bag, with the high-quality calibre of performers helping to boost lackluster booking.

Some shows completely exceeded expectations, others were overshadowed by one bad match that ruined the rest of the event, while some were just plain average.

14 Super ShowDown

Undertaker v Goldberg Super ShowDown 2019 Cropped

WWE’s Saudi Arabia shows have hardly ever been well-received, but this one is up there with the worst. Questionable booking such as Shane McMahon defeating Roman Reigns, and Lars Sullivan defeating Lucha House Party via DQ held the card down.

The main event between The Undertaker and Goldberg was a disaster, with the two aging stars coming close to seriously injuring one another, leading to this dominating headlines in the worst possible way.

13 Crown Jewel

Braun Strowman Vs Tyson Fury

This was a peculiar show which featured several huge names, such as Cain Velasquez and Tyson Fury. However, their matches against Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman underwhelmed. WWE also hosted a “World Cup” Tag Team Gauntlet, which served no real purpose.

The show was notable for hosting the first-ever women’s match in Saudi Arabia, and Bray Wyatt’s Universal Title win, which unfortunately came in a 20-plus minute match with the arena drenched in sickening red light.

12 TLC

Bray Wyatt v The Miz TLC 2019 Cropped

The New Day vs. The Revival and Aleister Black vs. Buddy Murphy were very good, but the show went downhill from there. Bray Wyatt vs. The Miz was a waste time, the Tag Title match ended in a double countout, and Roman Reigns was defeated by King Corbin in a plodding TLC match.

The main event Women’s Tag Title match between the Kabuki Warriors and Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch had good moments, but turned ugly when Kairi Sane was clearly injured, with Flair seeming to purposefully be stiff with her.

11 Clash Of Champions

WWE Seth Rollins And Braun Strowman

The thread of Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman opening and closing the show wasn’t very interesting, with the Universal Title match being very predictable. Erick Rowan and Roman Reigns had a decent No DQ match, in a contest which marked Luke Harper’s return.

Aside from that, the show was mostly just average, with several TV style matches. The two Women’s titles had poor finishes, with one ending in three minutes, and the other ending in a DQ.

10 Hell In A Cell

Seth Rollins v Bray Wyatt Hell in a Cell 2019 Cropped

The horrific main event between Bray Wyatt and Seth Rollins stole all the headlines, which was a shame, as Becky Lynch defeated Sasha Banks in a brilliant Hell in a Cell match, Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns battled Harper and Rowan in a chaotic clash, and Randy Orton vs. Ali produced a solid match too.

Unfortunately, average matches such as Charlotte Flair vs. Bayley, Braun Strowman and The Viking Raiders vs. The OC, and an underwhelming Women’s Tag Title match, couldn’t distract from how bad the closing match was.

9 Stomping Grounds

Seth Rollins v Baron Corbin Stomping Grounds 2019 Cropped

For a show that hardly anyone was excited for, WWE produced a strong night of in-ring action. Standout matches included Ricochet vs. Samoa Joe, and Daniel Bryan and Rowan vs. Heavy Machinery, with nearly every other match being solid at worst.

The main event between Seth Rollins and Baron Corbin was a slog, ending the night poorly. Overall, the show wasn’t anything special, but it was far better than expected.

8 Money In The Bank

Brock Lesnar Money in the Bank 2019 Cropped

The two Money in the Bank ladder matches were entertaining as usual, although Brock Lesnar winning the men’s match was an unpopular choice. The Universal Title clash between Seth Rollins and AJ Styles was a highlight too.

Becky Lynch’s Women’s title defenses against Lacey Evans and Charlotte Flair were quite poor, Shane McMahon’s feud with The Miz was needlessly continued in a Steel Cage, and the middle of the card saw a Cruiserweight Title match that no one cared for.

7 Elimination Chamber

WWE Championship Elimination Chamber 2019 Cropped

The two Elimination Chamber matches which opened and closed the show were both strong, with the WWE Title match in particular being a great showcase. The middle of the card wasn’t anything special though.

Finn Balor defeated Bobby Lashley and Lio Rush to win the Intercontinental Title, Ronda Rousey squashed Ruby Riott, and Baron Corbin defeated Braun Strowman in a painful-to-watch No DQ match.

6 SummerSlam

Trish Stratus vs Charlotte Flair Summerslam 2019

SummerSlam had some big moments, such as Goldberg’s entertaining squash over Dolph Ziggler, Charlotte Flair vs. Trish Stratus, The Fiend’s debut, and Seth Rollins defeating Brock Lesnar.

However, for a SummerSlam show, there were too many things that didn’t work. Becky Lynch vs. Natalya didn’t feel big enough for the show, Bayley vs. Ember Moon didn’t get enough time, and the WWE Championship match ended in a double countout.

5 Fastlane

The Shield vs McIntyre, Corbin, Lashley Fastlane 2019

Fastlane was an up and down show, though there was a lot to love. Shane McMahon’s heel turn was a fun moment, the Raw Tag Title triple threat was electric, Daniel Bryan vs. Kevin Owens vs. Mustafa Ali was a brilliant WWE Title match, and The Shield vs. makeshift-heel-team main event was a great display of organized chaos.

Unfortunately, the three women’s matches on the show were poor, with Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair ending in terrible fashion, with a Ronda Rousey interference.

4 Survivor Series

Team SmackDown v Team NXT v Team Raw Survivor Series 2019 Cropped

The inclusion of NXT in the battle for brand supremacy was a much-needed boost for Survivor Series, with it producing some entertaining triple threat matches, particularly in the Men’s Traditional Elimination match.

Adam Cole vs. Pete Dunne was a gem, Brock Lesnar vs. Rey Mysterio was fun, but unfortunately the main event between Shayna Baszler, Bayley, and Becky Lynch was slow and heatless.

3 WrestleMania 35

Kofi Kingston WWE Champion

This show was far too long, however, nearly every match on the show was good, and would have been even better if the show was trimmed down. The WrestleMania occasion made up for some bad, such as a botched main event finish and Kurt Angle’s retirement match.

The three babyface championship victories for Seth Rollins, Kofi Kingston, and Becky Lynch were all great moments, making for a memorable night overall, with several other entertaining matches on the show.

2 Royal Rumble

Randy Orton Royal Rumble 2019 Cropped

Both Royal Rumble matches had their moments, particularly the women’s, which became thunderous upon Becky Lynch’s entrance and victory.

Becky Lynch vs. Asuka, Ronda Rousey vs. Sasha Banks, and Brock Lesnar vs. Finn Balor all had a big fight feel to them, with each having a case for match of the night.

1 Extreme Rules

Shane McMahon & Drew McIntyre v The Undertaker & Roman Reigns Extreme Rules 2019 Cropped

There wasn’t a lot of expectation for this show going in, but it ended up being a great night up and down the card. Roman Reigns and The Undertaker vs. Drew McIntyre and Shane McMahon was perfectly structured, as was the main event which saw Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch battle Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans.

The rest of the card was full of good-to-great matches, such as a clinic between Aleister Black and Cesaro, two wonderfully wrestled Tag Team Title matches, a brutal Last Man Standing match between Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley, and a smooth United States Title match between AJ Styles and Ricochet. This was the most consistent show of the year, which had not much wrong with it.
