WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg returned to television on this week's episode of Monday Night Raw, confronting WWE Champion Bobby Lashley following the latter's victory over Keith Lee.

Goldberg entered the ring and told Lashley "I'm next!". The WWE Champion wanted to fight the wrestling icon right away, but MVP prevented Lashley from getting physical. It's widely believed that the two superstars will face off at SummerSlam on Aug. 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Although Goldberg remains widely popular, many wrestling fans and pundits have criticized WWE's decisions to constantly place him in the main event scene. Like it or not, however, the company has a good reason for it.

Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Pro Wrestling Podcast spoke to someone in WWE who told him that "Every single analytic indicator" they use "shows that Goldberg is a big draw."

As for the widespread criticism on social media? Zarian had this to share:

Goldberg's WWE contract consists of two matches annually. His first bout of 2021 took place at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, where he lost a WWE Championship match to Drew McIntyre. Barring a change of plans, it looks like SummerSlam will mark his final match of the year.

Since his return to the WWE in 2016, Goldberg has won the Universal Championship twice, against Kevin Owens and Bray Wyatt at Fastlane 2017 and Super ShowDown 2020, respectively.

This Will Work If Lashley Defeats Goldberg

The pushes of both Owens and Wyatt stopped after their respective losses to Goldberg, and this is obviously a key reason why so many fans don't like the idea of him occupying the main event scene.

Lashley is in the midst of his first WWE Championship reign, and it has been a success in just about every aspect. So having him lose the title to Goldberg — who has no more matches left on his contract this year — would be a very questionable booking decision. If Goldberg ends up putting Lashley over, then the feud should be far more well-received by the general WWE Universe.
