The 2023 Royal Rumble, as with every year, is one of the most anticipated events on WWE's calendar. Even if some previous versions of the event featured some of the worst matches in the history of the company, the ingenious concept of the titular match gets fans excited consistently excited every year. The rumors heading into this year's event have fans whipped up into a frenzy with legends rumored to return, wrestlers entering through the "Forbidden Door" to wrestle in the Rumble and the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns defending his championship in the third of a Royal Rumble trilogy with Kevin Owens. The 2023 WWE Royal Rumble Event Is Over

With the 2023 Royal Rumble now in the rear-view mirror, the Road To WrestleMania 39 just got a whole lot clearer. While Rhea Ripley clawed and scraped her way to victory at the number one position in the women's Rumble match, Cody Rhodes emerged at the favorable number 30 position to punch his ticket to a match with the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion. Not only that, but a major turning point in the Sami Zayn/Bloodline story happened as the Montreal native finally had enough of Roman Reigns and blasted him with a steel chair after Reigns demanded he attack his friend Kevin Owens who was handcuffed to the ropes. There was some low lights on the night as well, but overall fans are feeling good after the 2023 Royal Rumble.

    With "Mami" being on the best run of her short career, Rhea Ripley was pegged by many to be the overwhelming favorite to win the 2023 Royal Rumble. What many didn't expect however was the Aussie-born phenom to run the gauntlet and win the match from the unfavorable number 1 position.


    Notching herself seven eliminations in the match, Ripley was an absolute force of nature as she punched her ticket to a world championship match at WrestleMania 39. The question now is will she choose to challenge her old rival Charlotte Flair in a rematch of their WrestleMania 36 encounter or will we instead see a titanic battle of WWE's young female studs pitting Raw Women's Champion Bianca Belair vs Rhea Ripley?

    At the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, "The American Nightmare" turned a family dream into a reality as Cody Rhodes won the 2023 Royal Rumble. Rhodes entered the event at the coveted number 30 slot and eliminated Dominik Mysterio, Braun Strowman, Logan Paul, Austin Theory and most importantly, the first entrant and "iron man" of the match Intercontinental Champion Gunther to win the match.


    Rhodes will most certainly go on to WrestleMania 39 in California to take on Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship, but the Road To WrestleMania is always filled with twists and turns...

    Whereas last year's Royal Rumble event didn't have any notable performances to speak of, the 2023 edition of the event had some spectacular performances in both the men's and women's matches.


    The reigning Intercontinental Champion Gunther turned in a record-breaking performance (as long as you don't count Daniel Bryan's performance in the Saudi Arabian "Greatest Royal Rumble") as he lasted an astounding 71 minutes and 40 seconds. Gunther almost won the match but the returning Cody Rhodes bested him by tossing him over the top as his final elimination.


    On the women's side, a surprise return of Chelsea Green didn't work out to her benefit as she lasted a pathetic five seconds before being tossed out by winner Rhea Ripley.

      Aside from a few exceptions, WWE's Royal Rumble match historically has featured 30 wrestlers entering in at regular intervals. Men and women are eliminated by being thrown over the top rope and both feet hitting the floor. After the last entrant is called, the last person standing in the ring wins the match and is guaranteed a World Championship match at WrestleMania... most of the time anyway.

      While it is very rare for all the entrants of a Royal Rumble match to be announced beforehand, WWE usually does announce some of the entrants for the match prior to the event and that is the case for the 2023 Rumble.
