Shane McMahon appears to be done with WWE for the time being after a controversial departure at the beginning of 2022. The on and off run of Shane getting involved on WWE television led to him having matches with noteworthy names quite often. WWE utilized the son of Vince McMahon after Vince got over as a heel character.

The presence of Shane added a younger member of the family to get that same heel heat while being a little more physical. Various relevant wrestlers have teamed up with McMahon since he was almost always in an important storyline. The following superstars formed the best and worst teams with Shane in WWE.

10 Best: Big Show

Big Show WrestleMania 16 Cropped

Big Show became one of the most noteworthy wrestlers associated with Shane McMahon in the Attitude Era. WWE placed them together when Shane needed a new top star to represent setting up the McMahon in every corner main event storyline for WrestleMania 2000.

Shane and Big Show worked together many times over the next year as both partners and enemies. The chemistry was there on the same side since Shane loved talking trash and Big Show was able to back it up selling his intimidating presence.

9 Worst: Batista

Few fans will remember Batista and Shane McMahon teaming up for three televised tag matches, but they did have a story together. Triple H, Batista and Shane united to feud with Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr. in Legacy.

The main match in the feud featured Orton winning the WWE Championship from Triple H in a match where the winning person won the gold. Batista and Shane felt awkward together to take away from the bigger storyline of Orton feuding with two title contenders.

8 Best: Triple H

Triple H First WWE Championship

Shane McMahon and Triple H’s relationship in real life has seen a lot of stories circulating about tension between the brothers in law. However, they actually had strong chemistry on television together as tag team partners before Stephanie even entered the picture.

Triple H turning heel on D-Generation X to join The Corporation saw him as Shane’s on-screen pick to be the top star. Shane and Triple H had multiple fun tag matches against the likes of The Rock, Steve Austin and Mick Foley.

7 Worst: Umaga

Vince McMahon, Shane & Umaga v Bobby Lashley Backlash 2007

One of the weaker storylines for Shane McMahon in WWE featured him joining his father Vince McMahon’s feud against Bobby Lashley. The heel trio of Vince, Shane and Umaga had various matches teaming up against Lashley.

There was even an ECW Championship handicap match where the trio won but Vince became the champ. Shane and Umaga teaming up felt awkward since they didn’t make as much logical sense. Vince picking Umaga as his enforcer meant Shane wasn’t needed at all in this storyline.

6 Best: Drew McIntyre

Shane McMahon & Drew McIntyre v Roman Reigns Raw June 24, 2019 Cropped

Drew McIntyre coming back to WWE in recent years saw him getting pushed as a heel on the main roster before his face turn to the current character. Shane McMahon turning heel saw McIntyre becoming one of his allies during a feud with Roman Reigns.

The Undertaker actually returned for this angle by teaming with Reigns to defeat Drew and Shane. McIntyre was very impressive in this match, and it played a role in his bigger push coming shortly after. This was a rare instance of a modern Shane storyline working due to Drew’s great work.

5 Worst: Diamond Dallas Page

DDP WWE Debut

Shane McMahon was the prominent figure of the WCW Invasion when he purchased the company and wanted to overtake WWE. Diamond Dallas Page may have been the most over name of the WCW stars to join WWE right away when WCW ended.

Unfortunately, everything to follow saw Page losing all name value after getting squashed by The Undertaker and booked poorly. One of the few bigger matches for DDP before that happened saw him teaming with Shane against Kurt Angle and Undertaker. The chemistry wasn’t there, and it was another negative for Page in WWE.

4 Best: Test

Shane European Champion

Test and Shane McMahon had tremendous chemistry to keep the two unlikely personalities together on and off for years. The first storyline of Test dating Stephanie led to a hardcore match between the two that earned Shane’s respect.

WWE placed Shane and Test in a team together on multiple occasions after they became on-screen friends. One of the few good Invasion storylines used this when the WWE locker room resented Test for his friendship with Shane. Test turned heel to reunite with Shane and have more matches together representing The Alliance.

3 Worst: Vince McMahon

Vince and Shane McMahon looking at Steve Austin from outside the ring.

Vince and Shane McMahon showed that relatives feuding can be more fun than them teaming up. Most of the matches to feature Shane and Vince on the same team were difficult to watch since neither was a fully trained professional wrestler.

WWE had them teaming up in Shane’s first big run against the likes of Steve Austin, The Rock and The Undertaker. Even the comedic moments like Vince and Shane facing Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco are hard to watch back today. Shane turning face to feud against Vince created more interest than any tag match on the same side.

2 Best: Booker T

Shane McMahon & Booker T v The Rock Unforgiven 2001

Shane McMahon owning WCW and competing against WWE led to him developing a strong on-screen bond with Booker T. The pairing of Shane and Booker teamed up to feud against The Rock after he returned from Hollywood and challenged for the WCW Championship.

Even though Rock most of the big matches, Booker and Shane had strong chemistry that provided solid matches and hilarious backstage segments. There were four televised matches of Booker and Shane on the same side for an underrated tag act.

1 Worst: The Miz

The Miz and Shane McMahon

It feels wrong to list the only wrestler that Shane McMahon won tag team gold with as his worst tag partner, but they just never had that strong chemistry needed. Shane replacing Miz in the awful “best in the world” tournament led to them trying to share the trophy.

Miz turned face to team with Shane and win the Smackdown Tag Team Championship in an unexpected moment. The team never felt they clicked and ended when Shane turned on Miz after losing the belts. Miz gained nothing from feuding or teaming with Shane beyond looking foolish.
