Behind the scenes, it appears AJ Styles' desire to wrestle Edge is coming true. Per a report by Fightful Select, WWE is contemplating the idea of these two icons meeting in the ring at the biggest show of the year for WWE. For Edge it would be a step up from his feud with The Miz and Maryse and for Styles, it would give him a big opponent after coming out of a tag team with Omos just a few weeks ago.

Styles has wanted this match for some time. He said while a guest on WWE's The Bump that he looked forward to the possibility of facing him in the very near future. “I want this match. He wants this match. When is it going to happen? We're getting close,” Styles said. He wasn't kidding. During a text-based Q&A session on Fightful Select, Sean Ross Sapp was asked about the potential match and said that it has been pitched for WrestleMania 38.

Some fans might remember the two men had a brief encounter during the 2020 Royal Rumble match. Edge had made a surprise return and The Phenomenal One tried to take him out, unfortunately taking a spear instead and suffering a legitimately separated shoulder when he sold the move. It forced Styles out of the match and there was speculation more was planned between the two stars. If Styles vs. Edge happens at WrestleMania, this will be WWE picking up where the two left off.

When Styles talked about potentially facing the WWE Hall of Famer, he said, "That's not up to us. So, we'll do what's asked of us. We just hope we get the opportunity before both of us retire."

Another Big Match For WWE's Big Show?

With WrestleMania right around the corner, WWE needs to start putting big matches together. Right now, Brock Lesnar versus Roman Reigns and Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair are the only two confirmed matches for the card. Another high-profile bout like Styles vs. Edge would be a huge plus.
