There have been rumors WWE is working on a new gimmick/character for Keith Lee. He's been active in dark matches and around the WWE product, but not been brought back to Raw or SmackDown on a regular basis. The most recent news, based on the way WWE announced him to the ring for a recent match, is that he's going to go by a new moniker. Keith "Bearcat" Lee.

The news spread when a video surfaced of his entrance at a show and the name added to his introduction. It wasn't clear exactly why the name is being used, but some believe it might have to do with WWE and Keith Lee are paying homage to Bearcat Wright and Bearcat Brown by changing his name to Keith “Bearcat” Lee. Wright -- a one-time WWA World Heavyweight Champion, is seen as a key figure in the desegregation of the sports-entertainment industry -- was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017. He was part of the legacy wing.

There is some belief that Lee will make his WWE return during the WWE draft which is scheduled to begin Oct. 1. It's not clear where he'll wind up or if a new look will accompany his return, but his dark matches have not featured him getting a physical makeover. If he does, it shouldn't come as a surprise because WWE is heavily investing in the idea that their Superstars need to have features and/or characteristics they can sell to an audience. Lee is a potential star, but WWE is looking for the right mix of ingredients to push him to the moon.

Be Great To Get Lee Back

It will be exciting for fans to have Lee back. There was a long period of time where his future in wrestling was unclear due to health complications. He needed to take an extended leave and now that he's back and healthy, WWE is hoping he can make a big impact on one of their main roster shows.
