Many wrestling fans dream of seeing an alliance between WWE and AEW to produce an inter-promotional event to see dream matches, such as Roman Reigns versus Kenny Omega, The Lucha Brothers against The Usos, Asuka versus Hikaru Shida, Kevin Owens versus MJF, and any other match fans would like to see.

However, some WWE and AEW wrestlers have already clashed, and maybe you didn't know about it. Those matches took place long ago, in independent promotions or special events, and therefore went unnoticed. With that said, let's take a look at 10 WWE vs. AEW matches you didn't know already happened.

10 Austin Theory Vs. Darby Allin

Austin theory vs Darby Allin

Austin Theory versus Darby Allin would be an excellent match between young talent, it would probably have a good babyface-heel dynamic, and would probably be a success considering both wrestlers are talented.

Wait a minute, this match already happened, and not once, but five times, on EVOLVE Wrestling. Austin Theory and Darby Allin had chemistry and the matches were pretty good, especially their showdown at EVOLVE 121, which was awesome. Theory won the series of matches, 3-2.

9 Gunther Vs. Keith Lee

WALTER vs Keith Lee

Two big men, two powerhouse wrestlers, two men who have the power to tear their opponent apart. Gunther and Keith Lee could steal the show, just like they did on December 9, 2017, at EVOLVE 96.

Lee and WALTER delivered a hard-hitting, intense match from start to finish, pushing each other to their limits. After 19 minutes, Keith Lee won the match and retained the WWN Title. A rematch would be fun to watch, that's for sure.

8 Doudrop Vs. Jamie Hayter

Doudrop Jamie Hayter

Jamie Hayter is one of the best female wrestlers in AEW, she has potential to rule the division, and she could also become one of the best women’s wrestlers in the world. Doudrop, on the other hand, is talented, but she doesn't have the potential that Jamie Hayter has.

Doudrop and Hayter faced each other on one occasion, and ironically, Doudrop squashed Jamie Hayter. This happened on the May 15, 2019, episode of NXT UK. Evidently, WWE didn't see potential in Hayter, but she worked hard and is now shining in AEW.

7 Shotzi Blackheart Vs. Kris Statlander

Shotzi vs Kris Statlander

Although Shotzi Blackheart and Kris Statlander are young women and have not had a long wrestling career, they have already faced each other once. On September 21, 2019, at EVOLVE 136, Blackheart and Statlander collided.

Frankly it was a sloppy match, both were very green, but still they showed their potential, and managed to deliver an entertaining match. It was 11 minutes of back-and-forth action, and while there were some good sequences, they could have told the story better. In the end, Shotzi Blackheart took the win.

6 Shayna Baszler Vs. Dr. Britt Baker DMD

Shayna Baszler vs. Britt Baker

Britt Baker contested two televised matches in WWE, one on the July 25, 2016, episode of Monday Night Raw against Nia Jax, and one on the October 17, 2018, episode of NXT against Shayna Baszler. In both matches Britt Baker served as a jobber, losing both matches in one minute and 20 seconds, which is quite curious.

However, Britt Baker has improved a lot, and today she is arguably the most important female wrestler in AEW history. If Shayna Baszler and Britt Baker cross paths again, it would be a different story, and the match would be much more evenly matched.

5 Johnny Gargano Vs. Trent Beretta

Johnny Gargano could have gone to AEW, but he decided to stay in WWE because he dreams of competing at WrestleMania, and becoming WWE Champion.

However, that doesn't mean that Gargano hasn't already wrestled AEW wrestlers, as, for example, he faced off against Trent Beretta eight years ago in the main event of DGUSA REVOLT! 2014. Johnny Gargano managed to defeat Trent Beretta to retain the Open The Freedom Gate Title.

4 Matt Riddle Vs. Swerve Strickland

Matt Riddle Swerve Strickland

Once again, a match between future WWE and AEW wrestlers took place on EVOLVE Wrestling. This time the protagonists were Matt Riddle and Swerve Strickland (then known as Shane Strickland).

They had a very good trilogy of matches, the first match was won by Riddle by disqualification, the second match was declared no contest after 15 minutes of back-and-forth action, and the third and final match ended with Strickland winning to become the new EVOLVE Champion. Matt Riddle and Shane Strickland had a pretty good rivalry.

3 Matt Riddle Vs. MJF

MJF vs. Matt Riddle

Swerve Strickland isn't the only AEW wrestler who has faced off against Matt Riddle, believe it or not, MJF has done it as well. On the TV show Beyond Welcome Home, MJF and Matt Riddle went one on one. It was a good 12-minute affair, but nothing special.

Maxwell Jacob Friedman was the winner of the bout. Hopefully we can see a rematch between Riddle and MJF someday, it would be great, two wrestlers who are very popular nowadays, and they do excellent character work.

2 Ricochet Vs. Matt Jackson

Ricochet Matt Jackson

Ricochet was teammates with Matt Sydal several years ago, and they faced off against The Young Bucks a couple of times. Likewise, at NJPW Best Of The Super Junior 21, Ricochet faced off against Matt Jackson in singles action.

Obviously this match was a lot of fun to watch, with amazing stunts and maneuvers from two of the best high-flyers out there. It was an excellent bout from start to finish, both had solid performances, but in the end Ricochet was the winner.

1 Rey Mysterio Vs. Penta El Zero Miedo

Rey Mysterio vs Penta El Zero Miedo

This would be a must-watch luchadores duel, Rey Mysterio and Penta El Zero Miedo could deliver a match for the ages. Well, believe it or not, this match already happened, on September 7, 2016, at Lucha Underground #3.01 - Wheel Of Misfortune.

As you would expect from these two terrific performers, the match was great, with beautiful spots, fast-paced action, and a couple incredible near-falls. Unfortunately, the match lasted barely eight minutes. In the end, Rey Mysterio Jr. defeated Pentagon Dark.
