Less than a year ago, it seemed as though The Street Profits were on the verge of becoming the face of WWE’s tag team division, with even singles prospects lined up for the two in the future - in particular for Montez Ford who has all the makings of a future main eventer. Over the year though, their momentum has dwindled and lessened, with it uncertain where they really are on the tag team ladder. Even back during their time as Tag Team Champions, there was talk about a potential break up, with some fans still wondering when WWE will pull the trigger, or even “if” they will pull the trigger at all.

The Street Profits Have Been A Great Tag Team In WWE

The Street Profits started out in NXT, climbing the ranks steadily over time to the point where they became the NXT Tag Team Champions. Their chemistry was always improving, and they eventually earned a main roster call up. Upon joining the main roster, their popularity increased tenfold, becoming one of the more over acts in the entire company. Instead of moving to the forefront straight away, they appeared backstage a lot, cutting promos which helped to bring out their charisma, which is really where the WWE Universe’s love for them began.

They would go on to win the Raw Tag Team Titles in 2020, carrying them into WrestleMania. After reigning throughout the year, having a spell on SmackDown, and then returning to Raw, they became an integral part of the division, having consistently great matches whilst bringing infectious energy. In that time, Montez Ford has been given chances here and there to have major singles matches, competing against the likes of Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, and impressing in the process, leading many to wonder whether his ceiling surpassed the Street Profits tag team.

WWE Should Break The Street Profits Up Before Their Tag Team Run Becomes Stale

When looking at where the Street Profits are as they head into 2023, it is clear that they have dropped down the totem pole due to The Usos’ never-ending reign as the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions. There is no clear direction for them right now, with no substantial feuds during the summer and less TV time. It will certainly be a shame for the Street Profits to come to an end, but a change is sorely needed for them.

Montez Ford WWE 1

Someone like Montez Ford has far too much potential to let him rot in the undercard of the tag team division, and before it is too late, WWE must capitalize on what could be a fantastic singles push, even if it only to the upper midcard. He would be perfect in that role and could soon see himself drenched in singles gold if given the chance and platform. There is a worry about what happens to Angelo Dawkins, though it must be said that he has been an incredible part of their tandem, and if WWE are careful, they could well make him a strong midcard performer too. If not, then there are plenty of others who would benefit from teaming with him in a brand new duo.

WWE Should Break Up The Street Profits On The Raw After WrestleMania

As noted, the pair haven’t had much of the spotlight as of late, but this could well come into a storyline. Ford does have potential as a babyface, though he has sometimes shown the attitude and aggression of being a great heel too, so when it comes to which member becomes more frustrated, it doesn’t really matter as the dynamic would likely work both ways. Over the next few months, WWE does need to give them some momentum, winning matches and perhaps having a good showing at WrestleMania, even if it is just on the pre-show or in a battle royal, as the plan looks to be The Usos vs Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the Tag Titles at the show.

However, there is a perfect opportunity in WrestleMania season to pull the trigger before they fall further in the tag team ranks. Owens and Zayn will likely win the Tag Titles if they are to face The Usos, so they should issue an open challenge on the Raw after WrestleMania, which would be answered by The Street Profits. This will allow a big match to take place on this often special show (even if it has fallen a little in recent years).

Owens and Zayn can successfully defend their belts, kicking their reign off with a great win over a top team. Following the bell though, in front of the often hot and raucous post-WrestleMania crowd, a heel turn should happen from either Dawkins or Ford. Doing it on this night and gaining a big reaction will kick off whatever feud they have. In the past, WWE have botched tag team breakups, with the likes of The Prime Time Players, Heavy Machinery, and Cryme Time, by having a poor one-match feud with no plans after. If WWE plays their cards right, they could well build up a feud between the pair which lasts months and gets very personal, which would help to get both men to a point where they can carry themselves as singles competitors.
