In 1983, the music world was introduced to Brooklyn, NY native, Cyndi Lauper. Her debut album featured the singles, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Time After Time.” The video for the former featured wrestling manager Captain Lou Albano and the two struck up a friendship. It wasn't before long that she’d be appearing on WWE programming with her manager, Dave Wolff, and bodyguard, WWE Champion, Hulk Hogan.Related: Shaq & 9 Other Celebrities Who Appeared In Multiple Wrestling PromotionsThanks to the popularity of her debut album, She’s So Unusual and the video, Lauper was an integral part of WWE programming and one of figureheads of The Rock 'n' Wrestling movement. She was a huge part of Wendi Richter’s popularity and rode that wave to WrestleMania. She was even assaulted by Roddy Piper. As far as celebrities highlighting events goes, during the early days of Vince McMahon’s WWE, there was no one bigger than the eccentric artist. Maybe one day she’ll get the chance to be honored in the hallowed halls of The WWE Hall Of Fame.

Cyndi Lauper's Massive Influence In WWE Makes Her Hall Of Fame Worthy

Since 1993, beginning with Andre The Giant, the WWE Hall Of Fame ceremony has taken place every year in some form or fashion. By the time WrestleMania 20 rolled around, the induction ceremony became a marquee event of WrestleMania weekend. There are currently twelve celebrities that make up the Celebrity Wing, ranging from former presidents to rock stars, rap gods, and baseball anti-heroes. But for some reason, despite being a major factor of the original WrestleMania being so well received, Cyndi Lauper remains perhaps the most glaring omission from the celebrity wing.

Lauper’s involvement in the wrestling business ran nearly concurrently as her singing career began taking off. But even with the success of She’s So Unusual, Cyndi Lauper found time to be thoroughly involved in the wrestling business. She feuded with Captain Lou Albano and Roddy Piper, and she helped the build to “The War To Settle The Score.”

She managed Wendi Richter in her battles with The Fabulous Moolah all the way to the Women’s Title. She even made a few cameo appearances on The Wrestling Album - most notably, on “The Land Of A Thousand Dances,” and Roddy Piper’s “Everybody.” Before multimedia was a term, Cyndi Lauper was seemingly all over it; and much of it to help get the WWE over to the public.

With Vince McMahon Gone, It's Hopefully Just A Matter Of Time Before Lauper Is In The Hall Of Fame

So, then what’s the holdup? There has to be some sort of heat between WWE and Cyndi, or at the very least Vince McMahon and Cyndi Lauper, right? But unless there’s something going on that the internet doesn’t know about, there isn’t any heat. Vince sometimes could be a bit of an ageist, or perhaps there was some political reason, but that’s just conjecture, and now Vince is gone.

Inducting Cyndi Lauper should be something the company does very soon if they want to continue to push the legitimacy of their hallowed Hall. Lance Storm’s commentary on the matter earlier this year was even better, and actually makes more sense in some ways. He said, “WWE HOF discussion: Cyndi Lauper does not deserve to be in the Celebrity Wing of the WWE HOF. She deserves to be a full-fledged HOF member. She was a pro wrestling manager, and her popularity and MTV tie in played a huge role in the success of the Rock & Wrestling Connection.”

How cool would that be? A celebrity who played such a huge part in the initial WWE expansion and WrestleMania build might be more deserving of a place than an actual wrestling manager.

One thing is certain. Cyndi Lauper, perhaps more than other celebrity ever involved in WWE, deserves an induction. It would also be a huge first - to date, no female has ever been inducted into the celebrity wing. Also, for fun, who wouldn’t want to see the women on the roster breaking bread with the girl whose biggest hit is “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"?
