Money in the Bank was an event to remember this year. After the end of the Thunderdome era, it was a perfect show to kick things off again in front of live fans.
The men's Money in the Bank was one of the best matches of the PPV with eight Superstars from Raw and SmackDown competing in it. While the fans saw some crazy maneuvers in that ladder match, the bout ended with Big E ascending to the top of the ladder and unhooking the coveted briefcase. For the first time in his career, Big E became Mr. Money in the Bank. It's a booking choice with multiple pros and cons.
9 Good Decision: The Solo Run On SmackDown
Last year in October, The New Day was separated for the first time. While Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston went to the red brand, Big E continued to be part of the blue brand, making him a solo performer there.
After separating Big E from New Day, it was clear that WWE saw him as a singles star with a bright future. As a result, he also won the Intercontinental Championship on SmackDown. Hence, winning the Money in the Bank is another good step towards him fulfilling his potential.
8 Not A Good Decision: Hasn't Evolved From His New Day Persona
When Big E started his singles journey, it would have made sense to develop a different and serious persona, which he had before he teamed up with Woods and Kingston to form New Day.
Despite not being with the faction, Big E still has the New Day persona, as he cracks jokes and dances in the ring. While there is nothing wrong with him having a sense of humor, Big E needs to establish himself as more than the powerhouse of the New Day.
7 Good Decision: Still A Young Talent
Big E might have been wrestling in WWE for over a decade, but he is comparatively young. Needless to say, he still has a lot of years left in his career. Currently, Big E is thirty-five years old.
If WWE is planning to make Big E a big singles star, his age should be in his favor. Given his age and fitness level, the former Intercontinental Champion can be a main event level Superstar for a long time, which is good news for everyone.
6 Not A Good Decision: No Significant Momentum
Big E won the Intercontinental Championship on the final SmackDown of 2020. After a run of nearly four months, he dropped the belt to Apollo Crews at the Grandest Stage of Them All. After losing the title, Big E hasn't done much, so he didn't have significant momentum before heading to Money in the Bank.
Moreover, his potential storyline with Aleister Black was abruptly abandoned after the recent departure of the latter. To dethrone Roman Reigns, he will need to build significant momentum.
5 Good Decision: A Possible Second World Champion In New Day
Kofi Kingston made history in 2019 when he was pushed in the main event scene. He ended up winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35 and had a fantastic run as the champion. Besides Kofi, no other New Day member has won the World Title.
Following Big E's win at Money in the Bank, he has a fantastic shot at becoming either the WWE or Universal Champion. If he can cash in the contract successfully, he would become the second New Day member to be crowned a World Champion, adding to the faction's already-storied legacy.
4 Not A Good Decision: A Winner From Raw Would Have Been Better
Since Big E is part of SmackDown, he is likely to cash it in on the Universal Champion. Given the solid run of the Tribal Chief at the moment, it is unlikely to happen anytime soon. With that being said, a Money in the Bank winner from Raw would have made more sense.
While Bobby Lashley is also a dominant champion, the company certainly values Roman Reigns more. It would have been easier to cash in the contract on Lashley if someone like Drew McIntyre or Riddle had won from the red brand.
3 Good Decision: Big E's popularity
Big E or New Day, in general, is extremely popular. The big man of the New Day has been over with fans since the start of the faction. Given his popularity, it is a great decision to crown him the Money in the Bank.
Big E's popularity might reach even higher levels if he can manage to win a World Title after cashing in the Money in the Bank contract. From a business point of view, it is a wise approach, as fans will buy into him, and he will move merchandise.
2 Not A Good Decision: Roman Reigns
With more than three hundred days as the Universal Champion, Roman Reigns has been simply indomitable. Despite facing numerous opponents, no man has been able to pin the Head of the Table in a singles match.
Reigns has decimated everyone in his path, and it wouldn't be surprising if he remains the champion till WrestleMania 38 or beyond. This leaves little scope for Big E to cash-in, without fans resenting WWE and the big man by proxy. Reigns has been simply too good as the Universal Champion to drop the gold anytime soon.
1 Good Decision: Big E Is World Championship Material
Big E is the right choice to be the Money in the Bank winner because he has all the attributes to be the WWE or Universal. Weighing nearly 300 pounds, Big E is one of the most physically imposing figures in WWE. He also oozes charisma and has amazing mic skills, which can be seen in his promos with New Day over the last few years.
Big E ticks all boxes to be Vince McMahon's top guy. After winning the Money in the Bank contract, he is just one step closer to proving his worth as a top star.
