SummerSlam 2014 was a show that featured a great variety of matches and truly provided something for everyone. A blockbuster main event between Brock Lesnar and John Cena was a bout no one forgot in a hurry. Stephanie McMahon even got into the ring to face Brie Bella.

The show had a lot going for it and was certainly one that stuck in the minds of the WWE Universe. While it may not be one of the greatest SummerSlam events of all time, the show featured more than enough fantastic matches in order to be a memorable show that fans can still look back upon fondly.

8 AJ Lee (c) vs. Paige (Divas Championship Match)

AJ Lee and Paige were fantastic rivals in WWE, but despite that their matches never quite hit the top quality levels people may have expected. The main reason for that was the fact that they rarely got a lot of time to work.

This match was only given five minutes and because of that they simply didn't have enough time for this match to ever get to the point where it was going to be memorable. This simply would not have been the case today.

7 The Miz (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler (Intercontinental Championship Match)

The Miz and Dolph Ziggler always connected nicely inside the ring, which was largely down to their personal relationship out of the ring. This was a great opening encounter, setting the tone nicely for the entire show.

It was a solid match but nothing overly special or memorable, with the two having had far better matches at other points in their careers. Regardless, this was a fun bout that got fans invested and hyped up for the rest of the show.

6 Rusev vs. Jack Swagger (Flag Match)

Flag matches aren't the easiest things to get right, but Rusev and Jack Swagger did a great job here. The storyline really suited the gimmick match due to their patriotism, and it led to them having a great match together.

There was a lot of submission work here with each man working on distinct body parts to break down their opponent. This is something that brought a lot of psychology to the match, and with Lana and Zeb Colter on the outside, there was a lot of story to be told.

5 Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt

This was another solid wrestling match on the card with Chris Jericho working hard to put over a future star. The storyline between these two men wasn't overly exciting, but inside the ring, they connected nicely.

Bray was particularly aggressive throughout this one, which was showcased with him hitting his Sister Abigail on the barricade leading into the finish. It was a good match, but it never quite became as good as it could have been.

4 Stephanie McMahon vs. Brie Bella

Was this a technical classic? No. There were mistakes and not everything was perfect, but what this match thrived in was sports entertainment, with both women telling an amazing story.

Stephanie proved herself here while Brie stepped up and showcased what she can do in the ring. The heel vs. babyface dynamic worked excellently here and the shocking turn of Nikki was a great addition to the match. McMahon proved that she could deliver when needed to, delivering one of the most unexpectedly enjoyable bouts of the night.

3 Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose (Lumberjack Match)

Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose worked brilliantly as a team, but they were even better rivals after The Shield broke up. This match was chaotic in the best way possible with the two men attacking each other and bringing a real fight to the ring.

They kept the pace incredibly high from start to finish and that helped to benefit the quality of the bout. There was a great number of near falls and reversals, with the fans being hooked throughout.

2 John Cena (c) vs. Brock Lesnar (WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match)

This match is one of the most unique main events in SummerSlam history. While it wasn't a classic back and forth match, it was still fantastic. This one saw Brock Lesnar completely dominate John Cena in what was essentially a squash match.

Brock launched Cena around the ring constantly from start to finish, and it created one of the most shocking matches of all time. Cena had never been destroyed like this before, which is what made it such a memorable and fantastic encounter.

1 Randy Orton vs. Roman Reigns

This was a true dream match at this point and both men really delivered here. They created a big fight feel and went back and forth brilliantly, with Randy Orton really being on top of his game throughout the entire match.

Orton worked hard to keep the Big Dog down, even connecting with a fantastic RKO, but it wasn't enough to get the job done. The near falls in this one were superb and with a great atmosphere to back it up, the match turned out to be very special.
