Tag teams are one of the best things about wrestling, but Vince McMahon probably doesn't think the same. At one point, the tag team division of WWE was great as other things about the company, but that has changed over the years as the promotion started to focus more and more on individual star power.

While it's true that being in a tag team can sometimes hold a wrestler back and those Superstars are better off on their own, many wrestlers just aren't meant to work alone. Or sometimes they just need to spend more time in a tag team before they break out. On a number of occasions, WWE has decided to break up popular tag teams for no reason whatsoever.

10 Heavy Machinery

Heavy Machinery consisted of Tucker and Otis. These two made a good team together and were broken up because one person didn't like them together: Vince McMahon.

Tucker and Otis were forced to split last year as part of the WWE Draft. The company didn't even inform these two Superstars about this move and it proved to be bad for both of them. Tucker turned heel on Otis and went nowhere. While Otis is now in a different team, Tucker was released by WWE.

9 The Hurt Business

Before the formation of The Hurt Business, Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, and Cedric Alexander were on different paths. The stable allowed them to work together and it was a career-changing moment for all of them.

"The Almighty" Lashley became the WWE Champion, while Shelton and Cedric won the Raw Tag Team Titles. Right when it started to look like things were going really great, WWE broke up The Hurt Business. This move has hurt Benjamin and Alexander the most so far.

8 Rusev Day

Many fans have already forgotten about Rusev Day. They were one of the most popular tag teams at one point and even became the number one merchandise seller for WWE. But WWE didn't take advantage of their popularity that helped the wrestlers.

One night, Aiden English just randomly decided to turn on Rusev and that ended their tag team. WWE didn't even plan a proper storyline for their breakup. Their rivalry ended after one squash match on SmackDown that most people don't even remember.

7 Fire & Desire

Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville were first brought up on the main roster by Paige. Together, the trio was known as The Absolution. After Paige's retirement, Rose and Deville continued to work together as a team known as Fire & Desire.

Last year, however, WWE decided to break them up. Mandy found out that Sonya was sabotaging her relationship with Otis behind her back and it led to a feud between them. This break-up didn't help either wrestler. Mandy has now returned to NXT while Sonya has been working as an on-screen official.

6 The IIconics

The IIconics weren't the greatest female tag team in WWE, but they were surely loved by the fans. They were quite funny at times and while some people didn't like their comedy skits, others enjoyed it and they were heartbroken when WWE split the duo.

There were rumors that Peyton Royce would get a push following the split, but that never happened. Billie Kay also wasn't used by WWE properly and when she started to get over with the Resume Gimmick, they released her. Although it wasn't revealed in the storyline, Royce had pushed for a singles run in real life.

5 Enzo & Big Cass

Enzo and Big Cass became very popular on the main roster in a short time. Instead of pushing them as a team, WWE decided to break them up shortly after their arrival.

In 2018, a mystery attacker ambushed Enzo and it was later revealed to be his tag team partner, Big Cass. Following the breakup, both Superstars lost their momentum and later got released for different reasons.

4 The Riott Squad

The Riott Squad was a great stable in the women's division. Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan, and Sarah Logan were a perfect pair but WWE broke them up silently during the 2019 WWE Draft.

Morgan was drafted to SmackDown while her tag partners stayed on Raw. This move didn't help anybody as none of the wrestlers became more successful.

3 The Bella Twins

In 2014, Stephanie McMahon returned to the ring after over a decade. She faced Brie Bella at SummerSlam and won after Nikki Bella turned on her sister.

Nikki defeated Brie at Hell in a Cell later that year and the latter was forced to work as her personal assistant for a month. Later, they reconciled and the entire breakup seemed pointless.

2 American Alpha

Chad Gable and Jason Jordan formed a tag team in NXT and they became popular quickly on the main roster as well. In 2016, WWE made them SmackDown Tag Team Champions but split them the next year.

Jordan was revealed as Kurt Angle's illegitimate son and moved to Raw. While he did receive some opportunities in WWE, the fans turned on him. Eventually, Jason retired after suffering a neck injury and fans never got to see the peak of American Alpha in WWE.

1 Daniel Bryan & Erick Rowan

Erick Rowan aligned himself with Daniel Bryan in 2019 after helping him retain his WWE Title. They later became SmackDown Tag Team Champions but lost their title two months later at Extreme Rules.

WWE broke Rowan and Bryan after it was revealed the former was behind a backstage attack on Roman Reigns. This led to a brief and boring rivalry between these two former tag partners. Needless to say, it was still too early to break the two up.
