Vince McMahon's illegitimate child storyline is one that had a lot of potential and was certainly a missed opportunity to create a new main event heel. The idea surrounding this was over the top, but it could have been fantastic if WWE had stuck the landing rather than going down the comedic route of making Hornswoggle Vince's son.

Hornswoggle was often WWE's 'get out of jail card' for storylines such as the Raw Anonymous GM, but he didn't need to fill this spot. WWE had a loaded roster full of talent at the time, and there were a lot of great options the company could have chosen instead.

10 The Miz

One of the crucial elements to actually being put into this position should have been the ability to cut great promos. That is what Vince McMahon is known for, and that is also why The Miz would have been a sensible option.

He was arrogant and happy to brag about anything, as his partnership with John Morrison was proving at the time. Taking him to the next level as a project for WWE to work on could have been a great angle to take this character.

9 JBL

JBL WWE

JBL was already a top star at the time and he did end up involved in this storyline anyway, feuding with Hornswoggle and Finlay. But what if JBL was actually the illegitimate child all along?

Playing on the fact he is a successful businessman who is money orientated, it could have created a great egotistical power dynamic on Raw with the two tycoons. JBL was a great heel who was well proven at this point in his career, which is why this would have worked out well.

8 Snitsky

Gene Snitsky

Snitsky was one of the top monsters in WWE at that period of time, and he could have been an intriguing option for WWE to consider. He would have been a total curveball like Hornswoggle was, only it could have led to more interesting options.

It would have ticked the embarrassment box for Vince McMahon, but it could have led to a gimmick change for Snitsky with Vince attempting to clean him up. Inside the ring, he was a dominant monster and that would have worked well here.

7 Layla

Layla making her way to the ring

Nobody said that this gimmick had to be given to a male wrestler, which is why Layla could have been a good choice. She's someone who could cut a promo and work well inside the ring, all of which would have led to her taking on this role perfectly.

It would have seen some actual investment take place with the women's division, which fans would've enjoyed. Plus, a potential rivalry with a jealous Stephanie McMahon would have been fantastic.

6 MVP

MVP was a star on the rise in 2007 and was somebody that WWE was clearly investing time and effort in. The company could have truly gone all the way to make him a main event star by making him a McMahon.

MVP had the charisma needed to pull off the role, while inside the ring he has always been a dependable star which made him a great option at the time to take on the gimmick.

5 Matt Hardy

Matt Hardy cutting a promo

Matt Hardy was always on the cusp of being a main event name, as a wrestler who had the talent but never got the right storyline. However, being Vince McMahon's illegitimate child would have changed all of that.

Matt is great at playing specific gimmicks, which he has proven several times and this could have been another great one for him to get his teeth sunk into.

4 Carlito

Carlito is another wrestler that was heavily pushed during this period of time and is somebody that had absolutely proven himself to be worthy of a major storyline. He was a name that was just outside of the main event scene where one big push could have helped.

Carlito being Vince's illegitimate child could have been exactly that, with this being a role that he would have taken on perfectly and could have provided WWE with a brand new main event name.

3 Mickie James

Mickie James had already proven earlier in her career that she was great at playing a specific character with the Trish Stratus rivalry. Because of that, she would have been a great option to be Vince's child.

She would have fully committed to the situation and that could have worked out well. James was an established name who fans would have enjoyed seeing take this next step.

2 Mr. Kennedy

Mr Kennedy

It has often been reported that this spot was originally planned for Mr. Kennedy, but he lost it due to a wellness violation. He even claimed it was him on television, clearly setting the seeds for this and WWE should have stuck with its original plan.

WWE could have waited until Kennedy's return, after all, there have been tons of top-tier talents be caught via the wellness policy over the years. Because of that, it would have made sense for WWE to have continued with this idea, especially since Kennedy had all the necessary characteristics to be a McMahon.

1 Kenny Dykstra

Flair v Kenny

Kenny Dykstra would have been an ideal option for WWE to make Vince McMahon's illegitimate child. At the time, he was somebody that the company believed in and his feud with Ric Flair showcased the ability that he had.

Dykstra then needed to kick on with the right storyline, which he was never given which led to him falling down the card. However, being Vince's son could have totally changed things for him.
