It appears WWE's Day 1 premium live event will not be taking place in 2023. According to a number of reports, the pay-per-view has been canceled, citing scheduling issues as the main reason WWE is not going forward with the show.

Speculation is that there will now be no premium live event taking place between Survivor Series 2022 and Royal Rumble 2023. Dave Meltzer is reporting, "There were conflicts with major football games in Atlanta on 12/31 and 1/1. We'd been told a few weeks ago it could be moved but Thurston reported no PPVs between Survivor Series and Rumble. WWE hasn't confirmed." Talk about whether WWE will add another event to the schedule is out there now, and perhaps WWE looks to bring back something like Armageddon. At the same time, there's also talk that Triple H might see it as best to give their talent a bit of a break over the holidays and extend more goodwill among the roster.

Was Day 1 A Failed Experiment?

The inaugural Day 1 show took place this past January from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The show was a financial success for WWE, and the card was stacked with Brock Lesnar becoming the new WWE Champion after defeating Big E, Bobby Lashley, Seth Rollins, and Kevin Owens in a Fatal-Five Way match. Roman Reigns was set to appear on the card but he tested positive for COVID-19 and the match with Lesnar had to be changed last minute.

At the same time, that the event was on New Year's Day was not seen as favorable by everyone involved. There were questions going into the event this year about whether WWE should hold it again on the same date or move it. With it not happening, that's not a question that needs answering now.
